My introduction to North Road Farm and Jan Brubacher came four years after my last previous trail ride and subsequent move to New Hampshire. Jan’s knowledge of her horses and their individuality, as well as horses and breeds generally, is impressive. The North Road Farm horses are well cared for, well fed, and comfortable with each other. Two, in particular, each with his own individual personality, I think of as friends with hooves.
Riders whom Jan has trained can describe her teaching skills and patience in the ring. Both there or on the trail, safety is stressed. Trail riding and exploring are my riding pleasures. Well maintained rail trails, fields, and woods near the Farm provide opportunities where one may ride past cows, chickens, ducks, beaver dams, and an occasional turtle. Trailering horses to ride at the beach or a State Pack is another treat.
Before mounting, a new rider is shown how, and helped, to groom and tack up his or her mount. Whether out with experienced riders or novices, Jan, with a watchful eye, promptly offers suggestions and instructions for a more enjoyable riding experience. On return and untacking, you can show your appreciation to the horse with a carrot or apples for providing you with a wonderful outing.
