Do you like teamwork? Do you want to meet new kids who love horses too and make new friends? Can you work independently and safely or should an adult stay with you until you learn the routine? Mentoring assistance is available and must be arranged in advance with Jan. You must complete the Volunteer Release before you volunteer.
You will provide care including feed: hay & hay loft, grain, water; clean pails, buckets; push a wheelbarrow, lift a pitch fork, clean stalls, paddocks; sweep hallway; clean equipment. You will always be working with a qualified person as a team. Depending on your skill and experience, you earn credits helping new riders and students needing assistance with grooming, equipement, leading, walking, riding and more. You can work towards being junior camp counselor. You can volunteer at local and club horse shows. You will assist with handling: halter, lead, groom, tack, bathe.
Volunteer times are 8 -10 am Monday-Saturday and Sunday by appointment. Sign-up here to volunteer.
You will earn a $5 credit for every hour you help us care for or assist with the horses and ponies. Five work credits plus $35, gets you a private lesson. Save your credits towards a beach ride , summer horse camp or a seasonal horse event such a horse show or extended trail ride for example.
Students have used the Horse Apprentice/Volunteer program for community service, school merit achievement, 4-H recognition, college application, career advancement, physical exercise, or just for your own peace of mind.
