NORTH ROAD FARM SUMMER HORSE CAMP

IMAGINE: Make new horse friends! Spend time with your favorite horse! Endless hours at the barn grooming, tacking up, horseback riding lessons on well trained horses, jumping or maybe a trail or even a carriage ride. Then, free time in the hay loft, a pretend horse show, 4H reading and discussion with group and social interaction, water activities and horse-crafts. Imagine horses all day, all week long at North Road Farm's summer camp, located in Fremont, New Hampshire, Rockingham County.

STUDENTS: Open to riding students and 4H club members, children at least 5 years old, youth and adults. All levels welcome including beginners. Students will have read and signed the North Road Farm Riding Release form.

PROGRAM: All programs are run by Jan Brubacher, owner/instructor/leader using her experience and resources in 4H, education, web and along with her stable of trustworthy trained horses. Sessions are limited to 3 - 5 students per week to ensure plenty of attention and safety. Choose half day from 8 am to noon, or full day from 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, June through August. Reservation and deposit required.

WHAT TO BRING: A change of clothing due to weather. Bathing suit & towel if forecast is hot. Depending on your appetite, bring your own snack & lunch. Bottled water is provided.

DAILY: Each CAMPER is assigned a trained horse and will care for it each day using the 4H stable management guidelines. Popular activities include CARE: feeding grain pails, filling water stock tank, tossing hay, pitching and dumping manure. HORSES: capture, lead, control, brush, comb, braid mane & tail, horse-pedicure, equipment. RIDES: horseback riding lessons, guided rides, equitation, obstacle course, trail, cross-country, bareback, jumping courses, games, dressage, driving. LEARN: 4H work book discussions, hands-on activities.

TOPICS: horse & barn care, teamwork, behavior & safety, horse appearances & communication, breeds & uses, responsibilities of owning a horse, riding & driving skills, techniques and equipment, bathing, braiding, trail riding & horse show skills, health & diet, veterinary & first aid, careers with horses, stretching and fitness, games, balance and strength exercises and special projects.
